Chuck's Spanish in this song is very rudimentary, but I think it may be inaccurate to blame that for his mis-translation at the end of the first verse. He makes another obvious mistake in verse two, and I think the two mistakes together point to something other than his lack of fluency in Spanish. In verse two, he has Juanda saying the man's part. He says "She says 'Hablo solo la lengua de Ingles; no comprendo Espanol'". While he correctly translates it to "I speak only the language of English; I don't understand Espanol", it is obvious that Juanda should not have said that in the first place. She should be saying "Hablo solo la lengua de Espanol; no comprendo Ingles", which would translate to "I speak only the language of Spanish; I don't understand English". Even if Chuck knew no Spanish at all, he would know what the translation of Juanda's line should be. To me his mistakes are either down to lack of concentration, or this song was spliced and put back together wrong. When you wrote in the Discography 1955-1966 section of your website that the LP version was mixed differently from the single version, I always assumed that that was the reason for the misplaced lines (I have only heard the LP version). Now that you are saying that the two versions are for all intents and purposes the same, I think it would be interesting to find out the reason for the errors.
